A big dreamer teenage boy works as a gold miner in Southern Philippines runs away from his controlling father, yet a failed escape leads him back to a hard life in the mines and drives him to wish to simply vanish as a way to rebel.
Daniboy is a short film project born out of the director’s constant visit to Mt. Diwalwal in Davao de Oro. This is where he met the child miners in the gold mining community and had a connection through their stories growing up in such an environment.
With the hopes of bringing to light the life in Diwalwal, especially of its children, the director thought of doing that in a way he knows how to, through storytelling.
Creating this film would have not been possible without the talent, effort, and hardwork that was shared by the team and the support and help of the local community. While the project has also been fortunate to be supported by the Goethe Institut and the National Commission for Culture and Arts, unfortunately, it was not enough to cover for all the expenses that the production needed in bringing to fruition the vision of the film and making sure that we would be able to give proper compensation to everyone that contributed to the project.
With this, we have launched a crowdfunding campaign and are humbly knocking on your hearts and asking for your utmost generosity to give us financial support to finish this project.
We really hope you could be part of this film!

NOTE OF INTENTION
Mt. Diwalwal holds an open-ended geography bordered by a looming mountain and the town of Monkayo, Davao de Oro far below. This creates an illusion of possibilities. In truth, Diwalwal residents spend their time digging in the gold mines or working in small-scale ball-mill operations.
Childhood is lost early on and dreams are left in favor of gleaming gold nuggets. I felt this strongly from the talks I had with young miners. Some dared to dream big but the irony is that their parents see the mines as a never-ending source of livelihood. Unless these teens escape from the place, it would be difficult for them to chase their dreams.
This leads to the story of DANIBOY. He’s ready to move mountains and redefine the meaning of “surrender” to have his way.
